A bank transaction is not the same thing as a receipt.

Your bank feed says:

“AMAZON £47.83”

Helpful.

Was it packaging?

Printer ink?

Stock?

A new label printer?

Something for the office?

Or something you absolutely did not mean to buy using the business card?

Your bookkeeping software cannot always tell the difference.

If you run an ecommerce business through Etsy, Shopify or Amazon, keeping the paperwork behind your purchases matters just as much as recording the payment.

Make sure you keep:

🧾 Supplier invoices

💷 VAT receipts where relevant

📦 Purchase invoices for stock

💳 Receipts for business card spending

🚚 Courier and fulfilment invoices

💻 Receipts for software and subscriptions

A bank feed proves that money left the account.

It does not always prove what you bought, why you bought it or whether VAT can be claimed.

And six months later, “I am pretty sure that was business related” becomes a surprisingly popular bookkeeping category.

A simple habit helps enormously.

Save the receipt when you spend the money.

Not next week.

Not when your accountant asks.

Not when you are staring at 83 mystery transactions in December.

At The Bookkeeper Superhero, I help ecommerce business owners keep their records clear, organised and useful across Etsy, Shopify, Amazon and beyond.

If your bank feed is full of transactions that require detective work, send me a message. I can help you turn the mystery spending into properly organised bookkeeping.
